The summer Olympics were in Los Angeles that year, my town, at the Los Angeles Coliseum, where I played football. Let's take a trip down memory lane and relive the nostalgia of past Olympics, a time when the world came together in the spirit of sports. Where were you? Have you been to a summer Olympics?
Here's your chance. TinyTales.Press presents a special edition of our weekly publication, and a companion book will be issued the first week of August 2024.
Welcome to the 2024 Olympics.

Pierre de Coubertin founded the modern Olympic Games and the International Olympic Committee in 1894. The first game was held in Olympia, Greece, in 1896.
The original Olympics began before the Christian calendar, a couple of hundred years before we started marking calendar years, and continued until the 4th century by the Romans.
The original games featured fourteen countries, nine sports, and forty-three events. Today, there are two hundred and six IOC regions including a special refugee group.
There will be thirty-two sports and three hundred and twenty-nine events.
The last time Summer Olympics were in Paris was in 1924.

Grandpa says, “Uncle Reginald was the first in the family to go to Cambridge. While there he was an outstanding athlete and top of his class. He said we should be represented at the Olympics.
He was such a sterling fellow, that people had a hard time refusing him. He wrote letters requesting that he be accepted. He never had anything but high praise for the organization. While he waited for approval, he continued to exercise and practice. The year before he was accepted, he worked out for four hours every day, and he never gave up. That’s the lesson.”

“Henri, what are you looking for anyway?” Asked Ollie.
“I’m looking for the fine print. I know it’s here. It’s here somewhere. We’ve taken commercial flights from Los Angeles with a layover in New Orleans to get here, and now I see this poster for the Olympics. There has to be fine print,” said Henri.
Ollie said, “Can’t you enjoy Paris like everyone else; you have to stare at the poster that got us excited in the first place. What would the fine print say if you found it?”
Henri said,
“Everyone’s allowed but frogs. Everyone knows we only hop.”

“Chester, are we still going to Paris for the Olympics?” Asks the Dutchess
“Of course, darling, why on earth would you ask? I did promise you in front of our Queen,“ said Chester, his voice filled with unwavering reassurance.
The Duchess said, “The Princess and I have been practicing ever since. We don’t want time wasted. I informed the Princess of the importance of this historical event.”
Chester says, “Duchess, this is unlike you. Exactly what do you think the two of you will be doing at the Olympics.”
The Duchess says,
“Curling, of course. Our hair will be perfect.”

Dad says, “The very first modern Olympics featured nine sports: Athletics (track and field), Cycling, Fencing, Gymnastics, Shooting, Swimming, Tennis, and Weightlifting. The competitors for every sport were men. The men traveled from faraway places to Greece, where the Olympics started.”
Dad says, “Tommy, you talk about your passion for running. Have you ever thought about running in the Olympics?”
Tommy says, “Dad, that’s a lot of hard work and practice. Honestly, it’s all I think about when I run. I want to be the best.”
Tommy and his dad created a memory. They could see Tommy in the Olympics.

“Bobby, I know you love to swim. I’ve seen that in you since you were little. Training for the Olympics is a lot of hard work, drive, and determination. It can even be painful. Son, are you ready for that?” His dad asked.
Bobby said, “Dad, All I’m thinking about is being in the water. I can see myself swimming and winning races. I want to go for the Olympics.”
His dad said,
“OK, here’s what you’ll need to be and do: coachable, regularly practice, strength training, work on technique, conditioning, nutrition, and rest whenever you can. Let’s do this.”
